Wie Apple kürzlich verlauten ließ, hat man vor, zwei neue Datencenter in Europa zu bauen, die zu den größten der Welt gehören sollen. Fast 2 Milliarden Dollar lässt sich Apple das kosten und die Anlagen sollen–wie für Apple mittlerweile typisch– ausschließlich mit grünem erneuerbaren Strom gefüttert werden.

Ein Center wird in Irland und eines in Dänemark errichte werden und für Dienste wie iTunes, App Store, iMessage, Apple Maps und Siri in Europa zuständig sein. Es ist das größte europäische Projekt von Apple, das es je gab, sagte Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Auch Lisa Jackson, Apple’s Vice President of Environmental Initiatives, ist begeistert und erwähnt Apples Umwelt-Leitspruch: leaving the world better than we found it.

„We believe that innovation is about leaving the world better than we found it, and that the time for tackling climate change is now,” “We’re excited to spur green industry growth in Ireland and Denmark and develop energy systems that take advantage of their strong wind resources. Our commitment to environmental responsibility is good for the planet, good for our business and good for the European economy.”

Die beiden Rechenzentren werden 2017 in Betrieb genommen werden und sollen die bisher geringsten Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt von allen Zentren von Apple haben.
